YouTuber Rashid Siddiqui has opposed Akshay Kumar’s Rs 500 crore defamation notice and threatened to take legal action against him. Siddiqui, in a reply sent through his lawyer JP Jaiswal, said there was nothing objectionable in the video he had made in the case of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. He termed the allegations made by Akshay Kumar as false, regrettable and repressive and said that the purpose of these allegations was to harass him.
‘Freedom of speech is a fundamental right’
Jaiswal wrote in response that the death of Sushant Singh Rajput was covered by many independent journalists, including Siddiqui, because many influential people were involved and well-known media channels were not giving accurate information. He further wrote that freedom of speech is a fundamental right of a citizen. Siddiqui’s uploaded content cannot be considered contemptuous as he has maintained his position with impartiality.
‘Information was already in the public domain’
“The news published by Siddiqui was already in the public domain and he quoted other news channels as sources. The defamation notice also raised questions late, as the videos were uploaded in August 2020,” Jaiswal added.
‘500 crore compensation unreasonable, unjust’
“The compensation of Rs 500 crore is unreasonable and unjust and has been sought with the intention of pressuring Siddiqui. Siddiqui had applied to Akshay Kumar to withdraw his notice and if he did not do so, legal action would be taken against him,” Jaiswal wrote.
He also mentioned Akshay’s old interview
“When Akshay Kumar interviewed an influential politician (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), he was targeted and a number of YouTube videos and websites made personal comments against him. Surprisingly, it is true that Akshay did not take any action at that time,” Jaiswal wrote in his reply. However, he chose Siddiqui on defamation charges. “
