The National Commission for Women has issued notices to Swara Bhaskar and two others to reveal the identity of the victim of the gang rape. The NCWO trio immediately demanded the removal of their posts from social media. NCW has issued notices to Congress leader Digvijay Singh, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Swara Bhaskar.

The commission sought clarification

The NCW wrote in a tweet that it had issued notices to Swara Bhaskar and two others who had revealed their identities in the Hatras rape case. The NCW has sought an explanation from the trio for doing so. It has been instructed to remove the post immediately and refrain from sharing such posts in the future.

Disclosure of the identity of the victim of certain offenses under the Act is an offense under Section 226 (a) of the IPC. Anyone found doing so could face up to two years in prison.

Earlier Friday, Malvia tweeted a 48-second (now deleted) video clip. Where the woman was seen lying on the ground, her face was clear. Congress leader Singh’s tweet is no longer available. Swara Bhaskar’s tweet saw him carrying several placards with pictures of the victim in protest of Delhi’s Jantar Mantra, which has now been removed.
