Veteran Bengali film actor Soumitra Chatterjee has died at a hospital in Kolkata. Soumitra, 85, was hospitalized a month ago after contracting Kovid-19. From then on, his condition continued to fluctuate. On Saturday, the hospital issued a bulletin stating that his condition was critical and that only a miracle could save him.

Corona did, then recovered

Soumitra was admitted to the hospital on 6 October, his coroner’s report came positive in October. On October 15, he was free of coronary heart disease. Chatterjee finished shooting a series in the last week of September and was also shooting for Parambrata Chatterjee’s film ‘Abhijnan’. In addition to this he was also working on his biopics and documentaries.

Collaboration with Satyajit Ray was popular

Soumitra Chatterjee is especially known for collaborating with Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray. The two worked together on 14 films. These are Bengali films – ‘Apur Sansar’, ‘Devi’, ‘Kishore Kanya’, ‘Abhijan’, ‘Charulata’, ‘Kupurush’, ‘Aranir Din Raat’, ‘Ashni Sanket’, ‘Sonar Kala’, ‘ Joy Baba ‘Felunath’, ‘Diamond King’s Country’, ‘Ghare Bare’, ‘Ganashatru’ and ‘Shakha Prashakha’ Chatterjee has acted in about 100 films in his career, including two Hindi films ‘Nirupama’ and ‘Hindustani Sepoy’. He has also directed a film in Hindi called ‘Stri Ka Patra’.
