Sharpshooter arrested in 2000 for trying to assassinate Rakesh Roshan

The naughty crook and sharpshooter was arrested in Maharashtra’s Thane district about three months after he failed to return to jail after his parole expired.

Sunil V Gaikwad, 52, was arrested in the Calvary Persian Circle area around 9pm on Friday, a senior official said on Saturday. He said 11 cases of murder and seven cases of attempted murder have been filed against the accused. One of the cases is related to the 2000 murder of Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan. Raushan was shot dead outside his Santa Cruz office in Mumbai in January 2000, police said. The assailants fired six shots, two of which were fired by Raushan.

The officer said Gaikwad was sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case and was lodged in Nasik Central Jail. He was released on parole on June 26 this year. He said he had to return to prison after his parole period ended. He never came back. He was arrested last night. By then he was a fugitive.

The official said the accused was active in 1999 and 2000 and was involved in many crimes. He was involved with the miscreants of Ali Budesh and Subhash Singh Tagore. He said at the same time he was involved in a robbery in Nasik, where he fired on police members. Honrao also said that Gaikwad would be handed over to the Pant Nagar police, where a case of his absconding has been filed.
