Mumbai Mumbai police on Wednesday issued notices to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel. The notice asked him to appear before police to record his statement. An official said the officer said he would have to record a statement about the case filed against them for allegedly increasing inequality in the community through his comments.

This Cases A Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Saturday directed police to investigate allegations made by Bollywood casting director and ‘fitness trainer’ Munawar Ali Syed. The allegations cited Ranaut and his sister’s tweets and other statements.

Police officials said the court had directed Bandra police, Ranaut and his sister (Rangoli), against Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (promoting asceticism among different groups on the basis of religion, caste, etc.), 295A (hurting such religious sentiments). An FIR was lodged under the Intentional Attacks Act) and 124A (sedition) and 34 (having the same national objective).

“We have issued a notice to Ranaut and his sister to appear before the police in connection with the FIR filed against them,” he said. They have been asked to appear on Monday and Tuesday. In the court suit, Syed alleged that through his tweets and TV interviews, Ranaut had been tarnishing the image of Bollywood for the past two months by calling him a ‘center of familism’, ‘biased’ and so on. Went on to say that he not only hurt his own feelings by making very offensive remarks, but also hurt the feelings of many artists.
