Malayalam film Jallikattu has been announced as the official entry by India for the 93rd Academy Awards to be held on April 25, 2021 in Los Angeles. A 14-member committee of the Film Federation of India has chosen the film by director Laijo Jose Pelliseri. Jallikattu will represent India in the Best International Feature Film Foreign Language category.
Jallikattu has been selected from 227 films
There was a competition among a total of 27 films across the country to be nominated for the 93rd Academy Awards. Among them are Shujit Sirkar’s Sitabo, Safdar Rehana’s Chippiva, Hansal Mehta’s Lip, Chaitanya Tamhan’s disciple, Bidhu Binod Chopra’s Shikara, Ananta Mahadevan’s Beatersit, Rohena Gagera’s Love Love NF Sir, Gitu Mohandas Maditon, Kalitah And Satyashanu-Debangshu Chintu’s birthday was also included.
The film is set in Kerala Sports Jallikattu, nominated for the Oscars, is based on the controversial game Jallikattu in Idukki district of Kerala. In which a bull is released into the crowd before being killed.
The Oscars have not yet been received in the foreign language category
In 2019, Zoya Akhtar’s Glee Boy was officially selected for the 2020 92nd Academy Awards. Earlier, Rima Das’s Village Rockstars, Amit Masurkar’s Newton, Vetri Maran’s Biswaranai and Chaitanya Tamanna’s court have also been sent to the foreign language department. However, no Indian film has yet won an Oscar in this category.
