There are unwavering demands to ban the Adipush film to be released in 2021. Saif Ali Khan recently said in an interview that the directors are trying to show the human side of Ravana in the film, after which people started opposing the film on social media. Not just the progenitors, many of the earlier films had to face public outrage for their titles, love jihad, cheating with history and tarnishing the image of a community. Lakshmi- Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Lakshmi DG Plus has been digitally released on Hotstar on November 2. With the release of the trailer of this film, people started associating the love story of a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl in the film with profit jihad. The title of the film was Lakshmi Boma, on which several political parties, including actor Mukesh Khanna, objected to putting Boma Devi in front of her name. The controversy escalated to the point that the film was banned. The producers later changed the title of the film from Lakshmi Bom to Lakshmi. The film is a Hindi remake of the southern film Kanchana.
Footsteps Padmavat starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor was in controversy for various reasons. The Karni Sena protested across the country for banning the release of the film. People complained that the film presented a lot of information and tried to mislead the Rajput community. The film, which was released on December 1, 2013, was blocked due to lack of documentation after the controversy. The film was later released on January 25, 2018, changing some scenes and titles.
Flying Punjab In this film, the issue of increasing drug use in Punjab has been highlighted. Seeing the tarnished image of Punjab, the people of the state came down to protest. Later, the censor board gave the film a certificate with 94 cuts and 13 corrections, in which the film was released after reconstruction.
Manikarnika- Kangana Ranaut played the lead role in the film based on the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. Prior to the release of the film, Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha protested against the film, alleging that it insulted the character of Rani Lakshmi Bai.
Haider- Shraddha Kapoor and still the people of Star Film about Shahid Kapoor demanded to ban it and complained that it showed a negative role of Indian Army. Crowds also objected to some scenes showing violence in the film, although the film proved to be a big hit after its release.
Eat my name My Name Is Khan, released in 2010, was controversial before its release. Before the release of the film, King Knight Rider owner Shah Rukh Khan said in an interview that Pakistani players should also be included in the IPL. After Shah Rukh’s remarks, people called him a supporter of Pakistan and demanded that his film be banned.
Hey hard heart Uri was attacked just a few days before the release of A Dil Hai Mushkil. Relations between India and Pakistan deteriorated after the attack, followed by calls for a ban on all Pakistani artists. Released in October 2016, popular Pakistani actor Fawad Khan is also playing a pivotal role, prompting protesters to take to the streets to demand a ban on the film. Protesters even threatened to sabotage the movie if it hit the theaters.
Raslila-Ram-Leela of Tablets- The title of this film was previously kept only as Ramlila. People of the Hindu community objected to comparing Ramlila with a love story. Many accused the film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali of hurting the feelings of Hindus and demanded that the film be banned. In addition, people from the Kshatriya community expressed dissatisfaction with the misrepresentation of the people thrown in the picture, after which the community shown was named Rajadi and Sanena.
Bendit Rani The film Bendit Queen, produced by Shekhar Kapoor, was quite controversial with Phulon Devi. The film was demanded to be banned due to its hate speech, nudity and sexual content. The censor board has decided to stop the release of the film. The 1994 film was released in 1996 after two years of controversy. This year the film won the National Award for Best Actress, Best Costume Design and Best Feature Film.
Fire- Starring Shabana Azmi it is one of the few films where homosexual relationships were publicly exposed. The film was strongly opposed by Shiv Sena because of the subject matter of the film.
Madras Cafe- The film Madras Cafe, released in 2013, showed the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Immediately after the release of the trailer of the film, Tamil political parties protested against showing the negative image. The release of the film was banned in Tamil Nadu after several Tamil parties demanded a ban on the film.
