Renowned Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s health improved marginally on Sunday and he no longer needs to be kept on oxygen. He is being treated at a private hospital in the city.
A doctor at the hospital said he was given plasma therapy and a CT scan on Saturday. The doctor said, ‘What was his condition on Saturday, is improving on Sunday, but the actor is still in ITU. But Chatterjee is no longer in support of oxygen.
He said a medical board has been constituted to monitor the treatment of the 85-year-old actor and the board will decide whether to give the actor plasma therapy for a second time if necessary. The actor was sent to the ICU on Friday after complaining of discomfort. He was hospitalized on Tuesday with the coronavirus.
Earlier on Saturday, the doctor said, ‘Soumitra Chatterjee’s sodium level improved but his potassium level was lower. Trying to improve it. Chatterjee was ‘lazy, seriously skeptical and restless’. His oxygen level was brought back to normal, he did not have a fever but he was still in danger. The doctor was monitoring his condition at every moment. The actor was sent to the ITU (Intensive Therapy Room) of a city hospital after complaining of discomfort. The actor was also in a state of intense confusion on Friday. But before Saturday, his daughter Paulmi Basu said the actor’s condition was stable in terms of health. Basu said in a statement, ‘The team of doctors who treated my father say his body is functioning according to health norms and his condition is stable. Her blood pressure is normal and she still does not need oxygen.
